I’m a complete beginner at skin care please help me

1) Do I suppose to cleanse, tone, exfoliate then moisturizer? What is the order? Am I missing any other ‘important’ steps, I think you suppose to add sunblock lotion after moisturize step?

2) I’m confused in doing all this I believe you suppose to use hot water and cold water at curtain times for pores how does that work please?

Bonus Question) How often do I suppose to cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize, tone?

This could be different for everyone. It all depends on your skin type and what you’re trying to accomplish with a routine. But for me personally I cleanse, tone and then moisturize. I only exfoliate once or twice a week because doing it too often can damage and wear down your skin. My moisturizer has SPF I don’t need to add more sun screen after wards. But it really just comes down to your skin type. I have sensitive/combination skin so your steps could be completely different if you had oily skin. As far as the water goes, steam from hot water is great for opening your pores. But for rinsing off any product I would recommend using warm water and patting your face dry instead of rubbing the moisture off. Hope this helps(:

    1. Exfoliate

    4. Moisturize.

    You can reverse 1 & 2, whichever you like. I think it’s better to exfoliate first so you can get all the dead skin cells off in order to cleanse better.

    I highly suggest looking into a clarisonic.. It exfoliates your skin just enough each use and cleans your skin 10X better than with your hands alone.

    I use it twice a day.. Once in the morning with my Aveeno Ultra Calming foaming wash (I do a light cleanse in the morning. I only use the 1 minute allotted on the clarisonic).
    And I use it at night with my cetaphil gentle cleansing daily cleanser (At night i use the clarisonic a bit more harshly because night time is when your skin heals itself. I usually use it for about 1-2 minutes at night).

    Now on to hot/cold water. NEVER use HOT water to clean your face. It will open your pores all right but it will also draw all the moisture out of your skin.. Making your skin dry, messing up your natural oil levels, and therefore causing breakouts. You need to use WARM water. The best way (if you have time) to open your pores prior to cleansing is to press a washcloth soaked with warm water to your face and let it sit for a minute or two. The steam will really open your pores.

    Now, cold water? You need to switch to cold water after you are done cleansing and exfoliating. The cold water will help close your pores and keep any other dirt and grime out. PAT your face dry.. never rub your face dry. It can irritate it.

    Another note, unless you are using a clarisonic CORRECTLY (which is lightly, barely touching the skin), you only need to exfoliate once or twice a week. And its very important to use an exfoliator that will not irritate your skin or is too harsh. Natural things are best.

    After you pat your face dry, you need to apply a toner. Now, most people don’t know that toners are actually NOT very good for your skin. I never use chemicals on my face unless I’m really trying to get rid of a breakout. You don’t need to apply toner to any areas that seem a little dry or are clear of pimples.
    IF you use a toner? MAKE SURE you get one that DOES NOT contain alcohol, and has an acne-fighting property like salycilic acid. I like neutrogena’s.
    If you apply a toner? Make sure you use PAPER products. A bag of cotton squares and swabs are 2-3 bucks at the drugstore. Use the cotton squares to apply the toner to your forehead, cheeks, and chin, and then use a q-tip to go around your nose and in between your eyes.. And any other hard-to-reach places.

    After the toner has dried, apply a pea-sized amount of moisturizer to your face. I LOVE aveeno’s ultra calming moisturizer (seriously, this stuff has done wonders for my face). Rub the moisturizer in between your hands and pat it on your face. Apply at least 2 coats.. more if your face is real dry. If you have really dry skin, you can apply a thin layer of vaseline over the moisturizer after it had pretty much soaked into the skin (the vaseline will NOT clog your pores. It’s 100% comodogenic.. The molecules in it are way too big to even come close to making you break out).

    Another thing i do once or twice a week is a honey and cinnamon mask. Both honey and cinnamon are natural antibacterials that have been used for thousands of years. Just mix pretty equal parts of both honey and cinnamon and leave it on your face for as long as possible (3 hours is a good amount of time). This stuff had seriously made a difference on my skin’s elasticity and acne scars,

    That’s about all I can think of… TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN now!! Also, you need to get a moisturizer with spf in it.. So you don’t have to worry about sunblock underneath! Good luck and I hope i helped :)

  2. Hi Paranoia? Your question is good and also a simple one. Whether one is young or old, one needs to take care one’s skin. Only confusion is that how to take care. The simple method is that one should cleanse twice in a day during summer and once in a day during winter. As far as water is concerned, lukewarm water is good for your skin. Regarding exfoliating, once or maximum twice in a week is quite enough. I will not like to recommend any brand because everybody has one’s own choice because it depends how much one wants to cough out for skin. Once one has cleansed, one may go for moisturizer with spf. If one is cleansing prior to going to bed, I will recommnd to use toner only and its not necessary to use moisturizer prior to sleeping. When one goes for exfoliating, its not necessary to go for cleansing because exfoliation cleans your face also.
    However, if one wants to go for cleansing system after exfoliating, its okay. If one goes for both exfoliation and cleansing before sleep, one should first use toner followed by moisturizer to sooth the skin. However, the most important thing for your skin is something else. Your skin reflexes what you eat. So, a regular balance food is important for the health of skin and a nutritious food plays a bigger role in one’s skin beauty. So, one should give 70 percent importance to nutritious and balanced food and 30 percent to beauty fads. Same way, in fitness, 70% is important your food and 30% your fitness regime, i.e. workouts. In short, give more importance to your food followed by your skin care gears. Hope this would help you. Take care.
